When I first met Thibaud Baudin in Beaujolais back in January, he told me of a friend up in Macon doing ‘amazing things’ with Gamay and Chardonnay.
This was exactly what members wanted more of at the time, so I shuffled around my itinerary to make sure I could see Guillaume for myself.

Pouilly Fuissé is probably the best value white wine in Burgundy. Centuries ago, scholars regarded it as on a par with Meursault and Montrachet.
This is a rich, ripe style of Chardonnay, made from 7 small plots, each adding its own character and complexity to the end result. Like with all Macon, there’s plenty of weight and intensity, but there’s a lovely elegance and charm about this wine too.
Due to a few tough vintages in a row around here, there isn’t much white Burgundy available. So snap up a couple of bottles while you still can.
